Kerf Box Prototype 2, 2x8x1″, 2016. Laser cut and engraved Baltic Birch plywood.
The second iteration of the Kerf Box resolved several issues, including internal rails for the sliding lid and more ergonomic fingerholds, while keeping an ultra-slim minimalist form.
It was also my first experiment in back-filling the kerf cuts—I tried using wood filler, which improved the strength of the box but was not flexible enough to accommodate the regular use of the box. I finished the box with tung oil, to make it waterproof and bring out the grain of the wood.
